Alano is a member of the Raven Clan of the Tahltan Nation, and was born in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1980. The Tahltan are a member of the First Nations; they are a Northern Athabaskan people that live in northern British Columbia around the Telegraph Creek area. Edzerza grew up in Terrace, Victoria and Vancouver and has been involved in artistic endeavors since a young age, receiving an award for sculpture from the Victoria, BC School Board at the age of 13. He started learning about Northwest Coast art from his family, in particular, from Terrence Campbell.
In 2002, Alano attended school in Arizona under the instruction of Rick Charlie. He has worked with many noted native artists: Jay Simeon, Marcel Russ, Phil Gray, Corey Bulpitt, Beau Dick, Mark Preston, Dempsey Bob and Richard Adkins who in Alano's opinion is of the strongest designers alive today. As of late, Alano has been working with glass and experimenting with this medium. Alano has shown in many group shows and in October of 2007, Alano had his first solo show in Seattle, where he featured new pieces in steel, pencil, canvas, glass, jewelry and limited edition prints.
