Joshua Prescott, adopted Nuu-chah-nulth / Cree Nation

Joshua Prescott (b. 1982) in Victoria, BC, traveled with his family to other parts of Canada before settling in Victoria. He attended and graduated from Victoria Senior Secondary School, where he successfully completed Native Art classes with Victor Newman from Grade 9 through 12. Joshua was awarded the Graduation Prize and highest honours in the Native Art Studies Program in the entire school district.

Joshua has been carving, painting and designing since the age of 14. He has done several projects, including a full size mural for Blanshard Community Center in Victoria and other local facilities.

Showing exceptional skill and promise Joshua Prescott has been fortunate enough to be taken as an apprentice by internationally renowned carver John Livingston, whose work has long inspired him. Joshua has been working under John Livingston’s tutelage for the past year exploring forms and designs of Kwakwaka'wakw and Bella Coola cultures primarily.

Although still a young carver, Joshua already has his masks in several important private collections.
