Raven Contemplating the Holy Ghost Jeneese Hilton, Blackfeet Nation 66 x 45 inches Oil and mixed media on canvas $ 6,500 Raven is sitting tentatively near the edge of the canvas and warily eyeing a dove hovering over the colors American flag. A Yupik mask stands next to Raven; sharing the same plane in the painting as well as theological consciousness. The hand of the Yupik mask displays the traditional hole in its palm, signifying the animals from the hunt who were set free to repopulate the earth. The dove is the symbol of the Holy Ghost and seems to be guarding the concept of a perfect, infallible God, which is so prominent in our country’s current political situation. Raven’s perspective is a bit different and understandably cautious. |
